SUBMON is dedicated to conserving marine biodiversity and fostering a sustainable relationship with the ocean. Guided by scientific rigor, professionalism, and hands-on action, we strive to build knowledge and respect for the marine environment. In the scope of SEA4Future, SUBMON leads the development of detailed, in-depth training materials on Best Handling and Release practices for incidentally captured vulnerable species (turtles, birds, elasmobranchs), aimed mainly at training fishers' trainers around the Mediterranean Basin.

Meet the Team

Mariluz Parga – Is a veterinarian specialised in wildlife medicine. After working as Head of the Rescue Centre for Marine Animals in Barcelona, she cuurently w- Is orks in the marine conservation organization SUBMON, of which she is a founding member. Mariluz specializes in rehabilitation and veterinary medicine for sea turtles, mammals and birds. She applies her knowledge and experience specially to assessing and increasing the post-capture survival of sea animals accidentally captured by fisheries. This includes working with fishers to improve animal handling and gear removal techniques on board their vessels. In the past years she has focused on oiled wildlife response planning and preparedness in Europe.

Sara Fernández - Is a communication specialist and graphic designer with experience in institutional communication, strategic planning, and the development of engaging outreach actions and materials. She currently works at the marine conservation organisation SUBMON, where she leads institutional communication and contributes to the development and implementation of communication strategies for national and international projects. Her work focuses on designing and implementing multi-stakeholder communication strategies, translating complex scientific content into clear and engaging narratives, and promoting public engagement with environmental and research-related topics.
