Marine Reserve Effect Decision Support Tool
Marine Reserve Effect Decision Support Tool
The SEA4FUTURE Marine Reserve Effect Model is an interactive system dynamics tool designed to explore how the establishment of a marine reserve can influence ecological, fisheries and socioeconomic outcomes over time. The model represents fish population dynamics, professional and recreational fishing, reserve size and timing, fishing pressure, economic performance, subsidies and other marine uses such as diving and recreational activities. Through an intuitive Decision Support Tool interface, users are first guided through the rationale for fisheries management and dynamic modelling, then introduced step by step to how the model works, before being able to modify key management parameters and explore alternative scenarios. The tool is designed to help policymakers and stakeholders better understand the complex interactions, trade-offs and potential long-term consequences associated with marine reserve implementation.
