A technical naval engineering consultancy with over twenty years’ experience in the design and technical support of fishing vessels. ALTUM role in SEA4Future will be to work with the fishing industry to implement on-board tools for catch monitoring, as well as to address training, technical and technological requirements.

Meet the Team

Jaime Gallego - Is Naval Architect and Marine Engineer by Madrid Polytechnic University. In the S4F Project, he will be the project manager on behalf of ALTUM. He has over 10 years’ experience in the shipbuilding sector, working with shipyards and shipowners on the design of newbuilds. He has extensive experience in the field of R&D&I, having led projects within ALTUM focused on the design of vessels and ships powered by alternative fuels.

Manuela Alfonso - Is an Industrial Design Engineering, having graduated from University of Malaga. She has over 20 years’ experience at ALTUM, where she works with shipowners and shipyards in the fishing sector. She has made dozens of trips to Africa to provide technical assistance to trawlers used for shellfish fishing.

Diego Díaz - Is a Naval Architect and Marine Engineer, having graduated from the University of Cádiz. He has been working at ALTUM since 2025, but has experience in the fishing sector, as he comes from a family of fishing vessel owners with boats in Punta Umbría (Huelva, Spain).

Fernando Barras - Is a Naval Architect and Marine Engineer, having graduated from the Polytechnic University of Madrid. He has over fifteen years’ experience in the maritime sector, having worked in technical offices and shipyards. At ALTUM, he heads the structures and special calculations department.

Daniel Santos - Is a Naval Architect and Marine Engineer, having graduated from the Polytechnic University of Madrid. He is the Managing Director of ALTUM and has over 25 years’ experience in the maritime sector, having participated in dozens of new-build and vessel refurbishment projects. He teaches on various courses and master’s programmes within the maritime sector, and has also led several R&D&I projects in the fishing industry.
