
UNIVERSIDAD DE ALICANTE (UA)
The University of Alicante coordinates SEA4FUTURE, providing overarching administrative and technical oversight for the international consortium of 22 partners. Beyond project coordination, the scientific teams lead the development of advanced dynamic population models for fisheries and the co-design of management measures for Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and Fisheries Restricted Areas (FRAs) to ensure long-term resource sustainability. Furthermore, UA actively drives the integration of local fishers' empirical knowledge with technical field innovations. Through local marine research facilities and Living Labs, UA supports sea trials for more selective fishing gears and bycatch reduction devices while bridging cutting-edge ecological monitoring, such as genomics and eDNA surveys, with value chain improvements to protect Mediterranean marine biodiversity.


John Yañez Dobson
Marine Biologist & ResearcherMarine biologist and researcher at the University of Alicante’s Multidisciplinary Institute for Environmental Studies (IMEM). His research focuses on dynamic modelling for fisheries management, sustainable exploitation and marine biodiversity.

Jaime Fernández del Campo
Biologist & Marine EcologistMarine Scientist from the University of Alicante. After graduating at the age of 21, he joined Marlab UA-Dénia as a Marine Biologist under the supervision of César Bordehore. He later completed a Master's Degree in Conservation and Restoration of Marine Ecosystems while working at the Department of Marine Sciences and Applied Biology (UA) on fisheries and aquaculture interactions within the GLORiA-TOOLS project. Currently, at the age of 23, he has started his predoctoral research position within the SEA4FUTURE project, pursuing his PhD research on Fisheries Restricted Areas design under the supervision of César Bordehore.

Eva Fonfria
Biologist & Marine EcologistResearcher at the Multidisciplinary Institute for Environmental Studies “Ramon Margalef” at the University of Alicante (Spain). She holds a degree in Biochemistry, and she earned her PhD in the field of marine toxins, developing biosensors for their detection in seafood. For more than twelve years, she has been working at the UA-Dénia Marine Laboratory, participating in several national and international research projects. Her research focuses on coastal monitoring, marine pollution (including microplastics), gelatinous plankton, harmful algal blooms, dynamic modelling, citizen science, and the detection of invasive alien species using environmental DNA (eDNA).
