Science Crunchers is a scientific creative agency that turns complex scientific information into clear, engaging, and visually appealing communication materials. In SEA4Future, Science Crunchers supports all communication and dissemination activities, including the development of multilingual by-catch release training videos and a user-friendly Mediterranean Species Guide to help seafood stakeholders make more sustainable choices.

Meet the Team

Miguel Leal - Founder of Science Crunchers, graduated in Biology from the University of Lisbon in 2007, completed an MSc in Marine Ecology in 2009, and obtained a PhD in Biology from the University of Aveiro in 2014, in collaboration with the University of Georgia, USA. Before founding Science Crunchers in 2017, he participated in over 10 international research projects and authored more than 60 peer-reviewed publications, 6 book chapters, 2 reports for international agencies, and 2 science dissemination books. Under his leadership, Science Crunchers has completed more than 200 projects and built a solid, diverse, and highly international client portfolio.

Marta Carvalho - Has more than 10 years’ experience in science writing, with a focus on animal sciences and nutrition. She graduated in Aquatic Sciences from the University of Porto in 2015 and completed a PhD in Sustainable Aquaculture and Marine Ecosystems at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 2022, followed by a two-year postdoc. Marta has contributed to international research projects, collaborated with European institutions, and authored several scientific articles and communications. At Science Crunchers, she leads the Science department, overseeing projects that make complex scientific information accessible and engaging to broad audiences.
